Pride month can be the highlight of the year for many people out there. There are many resources on the web that help teachers and anyone interested in learning more about LGBT history. In this day and age, more people need to get informed. There are many people out there that need to feel like they are accepted. There is this page that I particularly like, called lgbthistorymonth.com (https://lgbthistorymonth.com/) This page has an icon page. I love this aspect because people need to know people like them in different aspects of society. People need to know they aren’t alone and to show their true selves. The icon pages have over 31 icons ranging from Russian activists to rappers.
Nikolay Alexeyev is Russia’s best-known and most quoted LGBT activist and the founder of Moscow Pride. Deborah Batts was the first openly gay federal judge. Angie Craig is the first openly lesbian mother elected to Congress and the first openly gay person elected to Congress from Minnesota. Emily Dickinson was a reclusive American poet whose stylistic ingenuity challenged conventions and profoundly influenced poetry in the 20th century. Felicia Elizondo is a self-described “Mexican spitfire, screaming queen, pioneer, legend, icon, diva, 29-year survivor of AIDS and Vietnam veteran.” These are just a few of the introduction bio of the icons. There are many people out there who would feel great knowing there are people out there who support them openly while they show themselves off proudly. This would also be good for educating younger people in school this month before school gets out and shows off one person each day. I really hope people who see this site use it to inspire others and show them how they aren’t alone and never will be.
Happy Pride Month to everyone out there! Spend it being your true selves and supporting anyone out there who may need it.
